Why Do I Blog?

I’ve always enjoyed reading. And I love great storytelling.

The weaving and placement of words to set a scene, a mood, a plot, to transport you to another place and time, this is magical to me.

From the earliest days of my young life, when I was reading I became the main character, I lived in the book I was currently reading, and oh, I wanted to be there in Deepest Darkest Africa, or in Old England, or sailing the oceans blue. As a result of reading King Solomon’s Mines ( H Rider Haggard) when I was a nine year old, I pronounced to my parents that I was becoming a missionary in Africa as soon as I grew up!

I never thought of myself as becoming a writer. Sure, I wrote stories throughout my education, I wrote my thesis for my university degree, I wrote notes and letters and thank you cards on a regular basis. But me as a writer? I never contemplated it.

About a year ago, I was asked as a favour to the editor whom I knew, to write a review of a concert for my local community newspaper. I found the experience so uplifting, almost therapeutic. I immediately wanted to do more.

Delightfully , my contribution was well received.

And so it began. I am now a regular contributor, writing pieces on all manner of topics. And loving every minute of it.

Blogging however, is very new to me. I want to learn this craft of writing, and the only way to do this is, of course, to write. And keep writing. Also, to read what other bloggers have to say, and how they write, is enlightening.

Why do I blog? In order to practice this craft, this art called writing. To hopefully be read and constructively criticised by other bloggers. And of course, for pure, unadulterated enjoyment.
